Summary of the Truly Agreed Version of the Bill

HCS SCS SB 1210 -- TAXES FOR PROMOTION OF TOURISM

This bill permits a transient guest tax to be levied on room
charges of hotels, motels, bed and breakfast inns, campgrounds,
and docking facilities in the City of St. Joseph and in the
unincorporated portion of Buchanan County.  The tax must be
approved by the voters of the jurisdiction and must be between 2%
and 8%.  The revenue raised will be used to fund tourism and
convention facilities.

The bill also increases the maximum convention and tourism tax
Kansas City may collect from 6.5% to 7.5% on sleeping rooms and
from 1.75% to 2% on sales of food by food establishments.
Revenue from the tax may be used for international trade, as well
as for uses already authorized by statute.
